Dear Walter,

Here we are in the middle of a New England Summer. In hope that everyone takes some time to gather with family and friends to enjoy the long summer days.

Summer is also a time to reflect. While we all reflect on our personal as well as business goals, I hope that everyone takes time to reflect on their volunteer efforts. It is a very satisfying and valuable experience to extend time and effort to volunteer for a worthy cause.

I hope that members consider ASHI's New England Chapter as a place to volunteer their efforts. This can be accomplished by helping with an event, championing an idea, volunteering some time to be on a committee, chairing a committee, or making a contribution to the Home Inspectors PAC. What ever path you choose, the chapter will be forever grateful for your volunteer efforts.

The strength of an association is measured by the volunteer efforts of its members. Contribute today to further strengthen our chapter.

Enjoy the summer!
Walter Perry, Executive Director

Eppraisal.com, the home valuation experts, recently announced a partnership with The American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). Through this partnership Eppraisal.com has launched its National Home Inspector Network where consumers gain immediate access to more than 6,000 home inspectors across North America. Eppraisal.com is a consumer's first and second step in their process to buy, sell, or refinance a home. With the new ASHI partnership consumers can quickly locate a professional home inspector to provide an evaluation of a home's physical structure and accessible components of a home, including central air conditioning systems; interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and much more.

"Before you buy or sell a home, you need to have a clear understanding of the home's physical condition. It's the difference between spending hundreds of dollars or hundreds of thousands of dollars on home upgrades and repairs. ASHI's network of local professionals includes inspectors with years of experience understanding the ASHI Standards of Practice, local construction codes and state regulations," said Frank Lesh, ASHI's 2007 President. "We are happy to partner with Eppraisal.com as they provide consumers with a comprehensive website that helps them understand all aspects of the real estate process and link them with the right professionals."

"At Eppraisal.com we are creating a destination where consumers gain all the resources they need to make the right decisions. Partnering with ASHI confirms our commitment to bringing consumers and professional together, in a unique way that really enables both groups to take action and make better buying decisions. We are extremely happy to partner with such a respected organization."

Through this partnership, Eppraisal.com consumers gain access to the largest and most trusted network of home inspectors -- an important step in the buying and selling process that can ultimately help consumers make a more informed purchasing decision.

"The launch of the Eppraisal.com Home Inspector Network really changes the rules of the online real estate industry," said Damian Scott president of Eppraisal.com. After many months of work over this past winter and spring, I am very excited to announce that the advance program is ready and registration is now open for our annual fall conference to be held Monday, September 24 and Tuesday, September 25 at the Sturbridge Host Hotel & Conference Center on Cedar Lake in Sturbridge, MA.

I think you will find the ASHI-NE Chapter's 2007 Annual Fall Conference to be more diverse than past years in terms of programming and that we have raised the bar in terms of the caliber of our speakers -- most of whom have national acclaim in our industry and others.

We will have an opportunity to kick-back a bit on Monday evening as we enjoy the hospitality and fare of our host hotel during our first ASHI-NE Conference BBQ. (The cost of which is included in your registration fee.) Be sure to take advantage of our early-bird discounts and save! While you will save the most by using the available two-day discount (and by registering before Sept. 10), our early-bird discounts also apply to one- day registrations as well.

MRC REMINDER! Conveniently, the conference takes place just before the end of ASHI's MRC calendar (Sept. 30), so our conference is just the place to earn 12 MRCs before the ASHI deadline! Of course you will also earn 12 CEUs good for state licensure in both MA and CT. NACHI MRC's too.

ASHI's Position on ASTM Inspection Standards

ASHI opposes the proposed creation of ASTM inspection standards because we believe they would dilute or replace existing industry standards that have been carefully crafted over time; standards that are based on the practical experience of untold numbers of professional home inspections.

We believe this would directly undercut our continuous efforts to build the integrity, independence and professionalism of the home inspection profession, and it would harm those inspectors who believe that our profession should seek the highest levels of expertise rather than regress to the mean in a likely ASTM homogenization of the competing industry standards. Such a result would also work to the detriment of homebuyers and sellers across the country who depend on genuinely proficient professional home inspectors to help them buy and sell homes safely and intelligently.
